The origins of the Comprehensive Firefighter Safety Kit

Integral Safety Kit SL was born from the concerns and reflections of a group of professionals involved in firefighting services, with years of experience in the sector. The deaths of professionals and colleagues in the Guadalajara fire of 2005 , while extinguishing fires, led to the birth of this project.

After a statistical analysis of the events that have occurred in recent years, the number of fatalities and the loss of firefighting equipment reflect the clear need to work on safety, innovation, and continued progress in the sector.

Therefore, it is necessary to work on developing new safety devices and procedures that contribute to the establishment of comprehensive training in these situations, thereby reducing entrapment and its consequences, should they occur.

The Purpose of the Fire Survival Kit

The phenomenon of forest fires has ceased to be a natural disturbance that shapes the landscape and has become a terrible threat, caused in more than 95% of cases by humans.

Since 2000, wildfires in Spain have affected a considerable area, with some of the worst incidents occurring in recent decades. The increase in the wildland-urban interface (contact zones between urban and natural areas) has also increased the risk of devastating fires.

From 1968 to 2023, forest fires in Spain have burned 7,891,781 hectares, an area larger than several autonomous communities combined, excluding Andalusia, Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha, according to Civio

In forest fires, entrapment is one of the leading causes of death among firefighters. In Spain, of 126 deaths, 88 died from this cause. Ground accidents, such as entrapment, are the second most common cause of death.

In wildfires, fire vehicles can become trapped and burn, especially in areas where the fire is spreading rapidly. Self-protection is key, and firefighters must be ready to respond if they become surrounded by flames.

The expansion of the wildland-urban interface, vulnerable to fire, grew by 35.6% between 2000 and 2020, accelerated since 2010 by urban expansion.
