Vehicle protection in wildfires

Vehicle protection in wildfires

Vehicle protection in wildfires. Exposure of firefighting vehicles to extreme heat during a wildfire can be devastating. The vehicle protection systems developed by ISK Fire Survival are designed to ensure the survival of both equipment and personnel, even in the most extreme scenarios.

The importance of vehicle protection in wildfires

In situations of entrapment or direct exposure to flames, forest firefighting vehicles become the first line of defense. Radiant and convective heat can compromise the integrity of the engine, tires, and cabin—putting firefighters’ lives at risk. Comprehensive protection is therefore an essential component of any self-protection strategy.

ISK and its certified protection technology

ISK offers a range of specialized solutions designed for comprehensive vehicle protection against fire, all certified under UNE EN ISO 11612 and EN 469/A1 standards. Among them:

  • FS1 – Integral Self-Protection Nozzle: creates a water curtain that shields against radiant and convective heat, forming a safe zone around the vehicle.
  • FS4 and FS4.1 – Fireproof Skirts (Simple and Integral): protect the vehicle’s lower sides, tires, and cabin from extreme temperatures, even during direct exposure to fire.
  • FS5 – Fireproof Curtains: thermally insulate the cabin interior, providing an additional shield in case of entrapment.

These components work together as part of a comprehensive self-protection system, capable of withstanding temperatures above 1600 °C.

System synergy: total vehicle defense

The combined use of fireproof skirts, the self-protection nozzle, and interior curtains creates a three-layer safety environment:

  1. Active exterior: the FS1 nozzle deploys a water screen that reduces thermal impact.
  2. Structural protection: FS4 and FS4.1 skirts shield the vehicle’s most vulnerable areas.
  3. Safe cabin: the FS5 kit provides an interior thermal barrier that maintains temperature and visibility during emergencies.

Thanks to this integration, ISK has already protected over 350 vehicles in real fire scenarios.

Innovation applied to forest environments

Wildfires are becoming more intense and longer-lasting due to climate change. ISK responds to this challenge with solutions that evolve alongside operational needs, including protection for electric vehicles and heavy machinery. The mission is clear: to safeguard life and equipment when everything else fails.

Vehicle protection in wildfires is not an accessory—it is a vital necessity. With ISK Fire Survival technology, forest firefighting units have self-protection systems that make the difference between a successful rescue and a tragedy.
ISK continues to lead innovation in forest fire safety, offering reliability, performance, and survival.
