Tire Fire Protection

Tire Fire Protection: Thermal Safety for Firefighting Vehicles

Tire Fire Protection. Wildfires expose intervention vehicles to extreme temperatures. Tires, made from heat-sensitive compounds, become vulnerable points that can compromise mobility and crew safety. ISK Fire Survival develops certified solutions to protect this critical area and ensure operational integrity during entrapment or direct flame exposure.

ISK Fire Skirts: Comprehensive Vehicle and Tire Protection

ISK’s FS4 and FS4.1 fire skirts provide an effective barrier against radiant and convective heat. Their design protects the vehicle’s lower sides, tires, and exposed undercab areas. This protection is vital when fire conditions prevent immediate withdrawal of the vehicle.

Each skirt is made of multilayer fireproof fabric, reinforced with Kevlar edging. The outer layers defend against radiant heat, while the inner layers offer thermal insulation. This system prevents the rubber tires from reaching ignition temperature and helps maintain vehicle structure stability.

Certified Resistance for Extreme Scenarios

ISK designs its products in compliance with UNE EN ISO 11612 and EN 469/A1 standards, certified by ENAC-accredited bodies. The fire skirts can withstand temperatures exceeding 1000 °C during prolonged exposure. This level of resistance gives emergency teams precious extra seconds in situations where every moment counts.

Testing includes radiant heat, convective heat, and direct flame exposure. The results confirm the skirts’ effectiveness under conditions equivalent to high-intensity fire fronts.

Quick Installation and Total Adaptability

The skirts attach to the vehicle’s side using anchors, magnets, or fireproof Velcro, depending on the structure type. Installation requires no complex tools, allowing for immediate field deployment. Each unit includes an abrasion- and tear-resistant transport bag for use in high-mobility operations.

Both FS4 and FS4.1 models adapt to light and heavy vehicles, ensuring thermal protection without compromising maneuverability. They can also be combined with other Integral Safety Kit systems, such as the FS1 self-protection lance or FS5 fire curtains, to achieve full coverage.

Tire Fire Protection: An Investment in Survival

Wildfires are increasingly unpredictable. A protected vehicle can mean the difference between evacuation and entrapment. ISK Fire Survival delivers comprehensive solutions that prioritize life and operational efficiency.
Fire skirts reduce the risk of structural failure and extend vehicle response capability in extreme conditions.

Protecting tires is not just a technical matter — it’s a decision that saves lives and sustains the crew’s effectiveness when everything else fails. And when everything fails, ISK stands firm.
